Wahoos update 5/26
Hi everyone-
There is lots to information in this email, so please take time to read it!
1. Summer schedule: Since school is out today, practices are Monday-Thursday mornings May 29-June 22 (no practice Friday, Saturday, Sunday). Times are:
- 8-8:50am (swimmers age 5-8)
- 9-9:55am (swimmers age 9-11 and a handful of 8 year olds)
- 10-11am (swimmers 12-18)
2. Common questions about practice: Yes, we do have practice on Memorial Day. Yes, you may have your child leave early if they need to for camp, etc. No, you do not need to email if your child needs to miss practice for any reason. Yes, you may still race in a meet even if you miss practice all week.
3. Extra gear for sale: We have a few extra items for sale - 1st come, 1st serve. I will bring items this week Mon and Thurs only (not Tues and Wed). Maybe you want an extra suit or tshirt for a sibling or a friend. Pay cash or via check to Wilshire Estates.
- girls suit $43 - size 24, 26, 36
- boys suit $38 - size 24, 26, 26
- tshirt $15 - 1 YS, 2 YM, 1 YL, 3 AM, 1 AL, 3 AXL
4. A few reminders from the coaches: Coaches are responsible for all swimmers when they are in the water. Parents must monitor their children before and after practice or if their child gets out to use the restroom so that our coaches can focus on the swimmers in the pool. Swimmers may not enter the pool before the coach in their lane has allowed it, so please help with your swimmer understanding this. Please let the coaches be the only one giving directions to your child while he/she is in water, and be patient as correcting strokes can take time. No siblings, parents, or friends should be standing by the edge of the pool during practice - leave that space for the coaches to easily move around. If you're concerned about anything in particular with your swimmer other than a quick direction for the coach (ie "He needs to leave 5 minutes early today"), it would be best to email regarding your concern so that we can handle it thoughtfully later and continue to focus on all the swimmers at the pool.
5. Download the swimtopia app: This will make it so much easier to rsvp for swim meets, to see what events your child will be racing in, and to see meet results. If you need help, ask another parent at the pool who has done it to help you.
6. Our first meet: Our first meet with be on THURSDAY, JUNE 1, at the TIMBERLAKE POOL. Their team will send us specific information in a few days, and I will pass it along. We usually have to be at Timberlake pool around 5 pm for warm ups and 6 pm meet start. The meets go until around 8 or 9 pm. We run it so that those of you with younger swimmers may be able to leave a little earlier. Keep this in mind when you are rsvp'ing YES or NO to the meet, as it is an evening commitment. IT IS SUPER IMPORTANT TO RSVP FOR EACH WEEKLY MEET by Tuesday morning at 9 am each week. I'll send out more information soon.
We look forward to see you next week at morning practices! Go Wahoos!!!!
Coach Susan
