Last week of Wahoos!

We have lots going on this week!  We have our regular 4 morning practices, so this Thursday is our last practice.  We have our final meet away at Whitewater on Thursday June 22, so we need to have everyone rsvp ATTENDING or NOT ATTENDING and pick 2 strokes for the meet by Tuesday at 9am.  Remember that we ask each family to volunteer at least twice during the season, so please sign up to help if you can!  We will do a golf cart caravan for this meet if you're interested.  Also, Whitewater has 8 lanes, so we'll need 16 timers.  That means the meet should be another fast one!  Whitewater also has starting blocks, so we'll get to try those out.  We'll talk about the blocks at practice and try them out during warm ups, and using the blocks is optional, so don't let your swimmer stress about it.  I'll send details about the meet once Whitewater has shared them with me, but plan on warm ups somewhere around 5pm and the meet start at 6pm on Thursday, June 22.

Here is what Saturday, June 24 looks like:

City championship meet :On Saturday, the city championship meet will be held at Kedron Aquatic Center (at 202 Fieldhouse Drive). This is a chance for our Wahoos to shine as they swim against all the 8 other teams in the league! The meet will be split into 2 sessions (10 and younger in the am, 11 and older in the pm), and it will be crowded! Your swimmer may swim THREE individual events at this meet, including the 100 IM and a longer freestyle race (and I'll explain these choices later). Coaches will choose relays, as usual. I'll let you know when the sign ups are open, as I need to finalize things first. This is what the meet schedule will be like (this isn't exact yet!) on Saturday, June 24:

10 and younger:

Between 7-8:15 am warm ups in general -- our arrival time and warm up time will be assigned to us once all entries are in, and we usually have about 10 or 15 minutes to warm up

Around 8:15 am  Meet starts for 10 and younger swimmers

Around 12:15 pm meet finishes

11 and older:

Around 12:15-1:15 pm warm ups in general -- our arrival time and warm up time will be assigned to us once all entries are in, and we usually have about 10 or 15 minutes to warm up

Around 1:30 pm Meet starts

Around 4 pm meet finishes

*better estimates will be given later in the week by PAC once all entries are received*

Team party: The team party is for all Wahoo swimmers and their family members, and it is at the Wilshire pool that same day, Saturday, June 24. Every swimmer will receive a team award, and we will have some special awards as well. This is the final event for Wahoos, so no more morning practice or meets after this! Here is the schedule:

5-6 pm Open swim if you'd like, lifeguard on duty

6-6:30 pm Dinner served (pizza, salad, watermelon, cookies, water, lemonade) - Please email me any specific people who have food allergies so we know for pizzas (GF? dairy free? just let me know!)

6:30-7:15 pm Program including awards

7:15-8 pm Open swim if you'd like, NO lifeguard on duty

If you would like to help out with the team party (cutting up stuff, picking up food, setting up), please email me.  Also, there is a lot of information coming at you this week, so please let me know if you have any questions!

CONGRATULATIONS to all 30 Wahoos who have completed the 100 Lap Club challenge!  Always amazing to see these kids rise to the challenge!  Prizes will be given out at the team party.  If your swimmer missed it and still wants to do it, you can do it outside of practice in any 25 yd. pool.  A parent just needs to witness it and email me by Friday, June 23.  And no, you may not count the laps you completed in practice that day towards this challenge.

Go Wahoos!!!!

Coach Susan
