Great first week - time trial results attached
Wahoo families,
We had a great first week of practice, which ended with today's time trials. Our swimmers did great overall, but we look forward to seeing them improve even more after weeks of practice. Thank you so much for everyone who stepped up to volunteer to help make the time trials happen, especially Anne Lupo (who is the master of the new computer system!), my husband Arthur (who was the starter but also set up and took down all the cords for the speaker, etc.) and Nichole Bowe (who organized the timers). Thank you to all the parents who jumped in to try out timing - it's kinda fun to be up front with all the action! We had some kinks to work out with the new timing system, and we appreciate your patience. Hopefully this helped our new families understand how a swim meet runs. (FYI Real meets have ages groups broken down 5/6, 7/8, 9/10, etc, but otherwise it will look like today but with other teams there so it'll take longer! And swimmers earn ribbons at real meets!)
I am attaching meet results for you to look at. It's up to you if you want your swimmer to see them or not. I encourage you to focus on individual goals other than winning 1st place - like finishing a race you were nervous about, improving times each week, learning to do all the strokes legally, setting a team record, etc. A highlight for me is watching the kids be good teammates for each other by encouraging and cheering for each other.
I'm still getting all the information together for the meet next week, but I did want to give you a heads up that the meets this year will start at 5:30 pm (rather than 6 pm as we've done for so many years). I apologize that I missed that memo and I'm telling you so late. So for the next 2 Thursday home meets, you will need to arrive at the pool at 4:20 pm for a 4:30 pm warm up start time. I'll send more information soon. If your swimmer can be at the meet, but cannot get there in this time frame, there will be a way to note that on the rsvp, and we can enter them accordingly.
I'll see some of you tonight at Lisa's! Enjoy the weekend - no practices ever on Fri, Sat, or Sun. And we'll see you Monday morning!
Goooooo wahoos!
Coach Susan
