100 IM

Hi everyone,

Looking ahead to the city meet at Kedron Aquatic Center with all 10 teams... there are 2 additional races that your swimmer will get to choose from besides the 4 regular individual races:

1) 100 yd. IM - where one swimmers races 4 laps in a row without stopping in this order: butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle

2) "longer freestyle" - 10 and younger swimmers can swim 50 yd. freestyle (2 lengths without stopping).... 11 and older swimmers can swim the 100 yd. freestyle (4 lengths without stopping).

Timberlake will do an "exhibition" (meaning not for any team points) of the 100 IM event swum at the end of their meet with us on Thursday, but we will NOT be participating in the 100 IM's (so if you're timing/stroke judging/ribbons, you can leave after the final relays!). The reason we won't do the 100 IM's there is because this would add on half an hour or more to the meet, which is already a long night!

However, tomorrow (Wednesday) during practice, we will do a 100 IM for a time trial during practice for any swimmer who knows how to do all 4 strokes without getting DQ'd and who wants to try. If your swimmer hasn't mastered all 4 strokes, I wouldn't encourage them to do this race because it is a loooong race to end in a DQ!  Also, please don't force your swimmer to do it if they don't want to!  Here's the plan for tomorrow at practice:

8 am practice - we will end around 8:45 am in case there are a few swimmers who want to time trial the 100 IM (please sign up with Coach Susan in person before practice starts). We are assuming most swimmers at this age haven't mastered all 4 strokes yet.

9 am practice - we will end around 9:45 am, as about 12 swimmers said they were interested in trying the 100 IM (please sign up with Coach Susan in person before practice starts).

10 am practice - we plan to have ALL of these 11 and older swimmers time trial the 100 IM during the last half of practice (please let Coach Susan know before practice starts if you DON'T want to participate).

If you're at the pool during practice tomorrow morning and would like to help time your swimmer, definitely let us know at practice.  Coaches can time / DQ, but it's always nice to have help!

We will practice the "longer freestyle" race this week too (if it's appropriate for your swimmer), but I don't think we'll time trial it.

Meet info should be coming soon from Timberlake, and I'll pass it along as soon as I receive it.

Go Wahoos!!!

Coach Susan
