May 29 update + rsvp for next week's 1st meet!
Wahoo families,
We had a bumpy first week with the weather, but next week should have more sunshine and warmer water! Thank you for your patience!
Time trials: Our 11 and older swimmers did well at time trials today, but we look forward to seeing them improve even more after weeks of practice. If your swimmer got DQ'd (disqualified), the coaches will work to help them correct their strokes. It happens, and we use it as a tool for improvement.
Thank you so much to those who volunteered to help make the time trials happen: Anne Lupo and Chantel Hendrickson for running the computer, my husband Arthur for being the starter, Isaiah Hendrickson for being a back-up timer, and all the timers - Ali Naglee, Sheila and Dennis Schneider, Caleb Hendrickson, and Jenny Hinton. We will not be making up the time trials for the 8 am and 9 am groups unfortunately, but we will work hard to get all ready for the first meet on Thursday!
Meet results are attached. You can also see your swimmer's results using the app. I encourage you to focus on individual goals other than winning 1st place - like finishing a race you were nervous about, improving times each week, learning to do all the strokes legally, setting a team record, getting different colors of ribbons, etc. We race each other so that we can improve our own times!
Next week: We will have practice as usual Monday through Thursday. For the home meet against the Pirates on Thursday, June 5, please plan to arrive at the pool at 4:15 pm for a 4:30 pm warm up start time. The actual meet will start at 5:30 pm. I'll send more information soon. If your swimmer can be at the meet, but cannot get there in this time frame, there will be a way to note that on the rsvp, and we can enter them accordingly. ***Please rsvp using the app by Tuesday at 11 am. (Swimmers will not get to choose their strokes for this meet only, but they will get to choose their strokes for the remainder of the season.) Also, please sign up to volunteer at the meet in any capacity that you can - it takes all hands on deck to run a smooth home meet!
Wahoos volunteer opportunity: *Saturday, June 7 from 10 am to 12 noon - Volunteer at Bloom Our Youth (who provides support and resources for foster children in GA). Any Wahoo swimmers age 13 and older can volunteer (max 15 swimmers - sign up by this Tuesday at 11 am to make sure you get in!). After Tuesday, I'll open it up to age 11 and older so we can fill the 15 spots. Your swimmer MUST be signed up through Bloom's link: https://bloomfosters.
Enjoy your weekend, and we look forward to next week! Goooooo wahoos!
Coach Susan
