great first week + time trial results attached
Wahoo families,
We had a fantastic first week of Wahoos despite only seeing the sun a few times during practice. Wahoo!
Time trials: Our swimmers did well at time trials today, and we look forward to seeing them improve even more after weeks of practice. If your swimmer got DQ'd (disqualified), the coaches will work to help them correct their strokes. It happens, and we use it as a tool for improvement. The most common mistakes I saw today were:
1. Walking on the bottom of the pool and/or pulling on the lane line to go forward
2. Backstroke - flipping over on your stomach, especially while at the very end of the race ("shoulders past vertical over the breast" is how it shows up officially)
3. Breaststroke - incorrect kick and/or pulling arms too big
4. Butterfly - incorrect kick
We also had a number of nervous swimmers today. Hopefully that will improve with practice and experience!
Thank you so much to those who volunteered to help make the time trials happen: Anne Lupo and Chantel Hendrickson for running the computer, my husband Arthur for being the starter, and all the timers who jumped in. Please keep in mind that our meets are run mostly by volunteers and we are not at the Olympic level, so our meets will have some imperfections at times - thank you for your patience. If you think there is something really wrong with the meets results (ie your child swam but their time didn't show up, or their time seems way off) please email me as we can often fix mistakes if they are brought to our attention.
Meet results are attached. You can also see your swimmer's results using the app. I encourage you to focus on individual goals other than winning 1st place - like finishing a race you were nervous about, improving times each week, learning to do all the strokes legally, setting a team record, getting different colors of ribbons, etc. We race each other so that we can improve our own times! There are no ribbons from today's meet, but all of our real meets will have ribbons for those who are not DQ'd.
Spirit Night tomorrow: at Lisa's Creperie in Senoia sometime between 5 - 7 pm on Friday, May 29 for dinner, dessert, drinks, or all of it! Lisa has generously offered to donate $ back to the swim team. Here's the link for menu, address, etc.:https://www.lisascreperie.com/
