lots of important June 4 meet info + heat sheet attached
Below is a LOT of important info for our HOME meet at Wilshire pool Thursday, June 4, against the Kedron Hills Cruisers. Keep it handy for Thursday:
1) Parking: Parking is very limited. Please walk if you can, or golf cart, carpool, or park at a friend's house close by. The only parking that will be allowed at the pool or in the spaces on the street by the pool are for GOLF CARTS or handicapped parking. Please park all other vehicles in the Publix parking lot. If you'd like to drive through the pool area and drop off chairs, kids, bags, etc., you may do that. We will have a volunteer helping people cross Holly Grove Rd. safely - please be careful!
2) Meet Schedule Thurs (listed at the top of the heat sheet too!):
4:15 pm Arrive at Wilshire pool + check in with coaches
4:30 - 4:40 pm 10 and younger Wahoo warm ups
4:40 - 4:55 pm 11 and older Wahoo warm ups
4:55 - 5:20 pm Visiting team warms up
5:30 pm Meet starts
3) Concessions: Please bring CASH (small bills appreciated!) for our concession stand, or you may VENMO. We'll have Johnny's pizza, Publix subs, and hot dogs, as well as drinks, candy, fruit, and ice pops. Please take the night off from cooking dinner and support our concession stand! A huge THANK YOU to Jenny Hinton for spearheading concessions
4) Definitely bring to the meet: Goggles, suit, towel, cap (if you use one)
Suggested items to bring to the meet: Food, drinks, foldable chairs, sunscreen, a sharpie (for writing events on swimmer's arm), cash, blanket (for swimmers to hang out on or wrap up in), printed copy of the heat sheet (or you can look online)
5) Heat sheet is attached: Big brackets mean "combined" events, so we swim the events at the same time. This helps the meet run faster. "Medley relay" order goes like this: 1) backstroke 2) breaststroke 3) butterfly 4) freestyle. The app also tells you what stroke your child is swimming in the relay. "Freestyle relay" is all 4 freestylers. I recommend you print it, especially if this is your first meet.
A few odds and ends...
- All 10 and younger swimmers should have their name and age written in Sharpie on their left shoulder/arm area. I also recommend that all ages have a swimmer's Event #'s written on their arm or leg. Some people like to write more - heat, lane, race, etc. but sometimes that confuses swimmers! We will talk about this at practice on Thursday morning too. No swimmer should be asking the coach what event number they're in -- this is something that your family needs to have together before the meet.
- We plan to run our meet as quickly as possible, so it is important that your swimmer listen for event numbers and get to the bull pen when called -- with goggles but without shoes/candy. NO PARENTS may be in the bull pen or in the starting and finishing area unless you're volunteering -- wish your swimmers good luck BEFORE they get to the bull pen! The coaches and bull pen workers will get help get your swimmer to the right place to race from the bull pen.
- Please use the restroom right before you leave home.
- If you already know your swimmer will be late for warm ups (some have dance, drivers ed, baseball, etc. this week), please let me know! I really appreciate those of you who have already told me this in the "notes" section of rsvp (Calli, Andrew S, Ruth, also Hudson has possible conflict for meet...). If you miss the scheduled warm ups, then your swimmer will not be able to warm up at a different time - no exceptions.
- When you arrive at the meet, your swimmers need to check in with the coaches. That way we know everyone is here!
- We focus on trying to do all strokes legally before we work on getting faster. It's always fun to win, but keep in mind that only 1 person (or 1 relay) gets 1st place in each event. I love focusing on "dropping times" for our returning swimmers, or "not getting DQ'd" if you're trying out a new stroke so that you get a ribbon in every event, or "just finishing all races" for a new swimmer. Set the bar this week, and let's see if we can improve each week. Do not stress about any DQ's, including relay DQ's - we try to rotate who swims the harder strokes for our younger swimmer relays for each meet, if needed.
- Please stay at the meet until you are confident that your child has completed all of his/her races. We hope to be done by 8:30 pm. You may leave as soon as your swimmer's last race - no need to stay until the end of the meet if you're done! Please encourage your swimmers to throw away all their trash, and please leave your area as clean as you found it.
- Swim meets are a bit of organized chaos. Hopefully your swimmer has a positive experience! I know it's a lot if you're new, but trust the process - swim meets are so much fun!! Please ask a coach or a seasoned parent if you have any questions. Or email me!
- Life happens, and if your child becomes ill or there is a family emergency, please email me ([email protected]) or text if it's close to meet time (770-265-2925). If you're at the meet, let a coach know. We depend on your child for the relays, but we can try to find a replacement so earliest notice is best!
Thanks again to everyone who signed up to volunteer this meet - we appreciate you! Go Wahoos!
Coach Susan
