week of June 8
Wahoos,
Next week: We have regular practice all week, a home meet Thursday 6/11 with the same time frame as last week, and "100 Lap Club" on Friday 6/12 anytime between 8 - 11 am.
RSVP: Nothing regarding attendance with Wahoos is ever mandatory, but you do need to rsvp for Thursday's swim meet by Tuesday at 10 am. No rsvp = no swim in the meet. And if you rsvp that you're coming, we need you to show up or communicate about cancellation. Meet entries and volunteer positions are now open for next week's home meet against the Woodcreek Waves.
Meet entries: Each swimmer may choose up to 2 individual races this meet when you rsvp. Some swimmers have a favorite race... some swimmers like to try a different stroke every race... some swimmers are still learning the techniques of butterfly and breaststroke so need to stick with backstroke and freestyle... some swimmers got DQ'd this week and want to retry a stroke to fix things... some swimmers got DQ'd this week and want to avoid that stroke to avoid another DQ. It's up to you and your swimmer! Feel free to ask a coach before/after practice Mon or Tues if you'd like input based on your child's skills. When in doubt, freestyle and backstroke are the safest choices. You'll also notice the same order of events each week, and backstroke and freestyle are always swum near the beginning of the meet (so 10 and younger swimmers can leave after their freestyle relay, for a shorter night which I know some with younger swimmers appreciate!). Coaches choose the relays always, so please don't give input regarding relays in the notes.
Volunteers: We ask that every family sign up to fill at least 2 positions at some point during the season. Home meets require the most help, so please sign up to volunteer this week if at all possible. We really appreciate and depend on our parent volunteers to run a smooth meet!
100 Lap Club: Next Friday, 6/12, we will hold our annual 100 lap club. This is completely optional, so please do not force your swimmer to participate. The pool will be set up from 8 - 11 am for any swimmer to swim 100 lengths of the pool using any stroke and stopping to rest as much as needed, so swimmers may arrive at any time during this window. Each swimmer who comes must bring a responsible person (parent, older sibling, etc) to keep track of the laps swum. We will have popsicles for all participants, and all swimmers who successfully complete the 100 laps will be recognized and receive an award at the end of season celebration. The coaches will talk about this with the swimmers at practice this week, so the swimmers can ask the coaches any questions then. If your swimmer is unable to make it this Friday yet wants to participate, they can always complete it another day and have a parent email Coach Susan to verify he/she did it.
Let me know if you have any burning questions.
Go Wahoos!
Coach Susan
